Two very nice multimedia Jimmy Ponder tributes (there's also a link to the second one in the first one): Jazz Guitarist Jimmy Ponder: 1946 - 2013 (at Fretboard Journal) Guitarist Jimmy Ponder (1946-2013) (by a former student of his) I wasn't familiar with him...

Re: Branford Marsalis blindfold test

There is only one Jaco--if Bob Mintzer, for example, puts out an album called For the Love of Jaco, then I'd bet (as a marketing guy) that a good percentage of jazz fans will know that Mintzer is talking about Jaco Pastorious , . . . And there is only one Abby . Not as well-known as Ella, of course...

Where Rita went wrong was completely screwing up her charge of argumentum ad ignorantiam. It is a way of saying something is true because it hasn't been proven false. (okay, last comment) Or vice versa; it is also a way of saying something is false (simply) because it hasn't bee...

Name one Jazz album that sold better than one would have expected from said artist because it had the name of a Jazz legend in the title. Mother: Eat the rest of your dinner, Junior! Flickr has been either down or partially down for several hours (that I know of). Could be a coincidence, of course, but I wonder whether more sites are messed up and whether hacking is going on.

It's the one thing there's any theoretical consensus on concerning warfare: don't use chemical weapons. Shoot, bomb, bludgeon, stab, slash, hang, drown, decapitate, burn... OK, war is war. But gas? Never! To an extent it's arbitrary, but gas is like neutron bombs, it's really only good at indiscrim...

On YouTube, one can watch twerking champions who compete in twerking team competitions or one-on-one match-ups. A few have become true twerking stars; they make money from their YouTube videos (somehow) and in-person appearances. I admired a couple of the stars, but after a day of watching ...

Re: House Rules (Please don't break them in this thread!)

No offense, but is it really necessary to nitpick it that much? I mean, Ron took the initiative and put a lot of effort into it, I don't see a problem leaving it as is. Rule #5 puzzled me and still does. It's not nitpicking to try to understand the rule or to ask how and whether it serves a use...
