Re: Only in Alaska!
We're fine, Coda. Thanks for your concern. This 7.9 quake (a BIG one) occurred in the distant Aleutian Islands. The tsunami warning was a regional one which didn't materialize. It was a deep earthquake near Little Sitkin Island, about 1000 miles from Anchorage. If it hadn't been so deep (over 70 mil...

It was our pleasure to send out 1st birthday party invitations to the very people who have made this little experiment possible. While we can't and don't want to compete with social media such as Facebook, Twitter, etc., we still believe that there is value in a forum such as Jazztalk. That's why I'...

Coda, I was speaking about your images in a very broad-brushed, simplistic manner. I realize that you care a great deal about your digital images and their many nuances, and certainly wasn't trying to challenge your knowledge or equipment. Now, on another related subject, you should be pleased to le...

Thanks for stopping by, jazzcaster. We appreciate it. Hanging out with your sweetie is a very important thing, and we never want to get in the way of those dynamics.
We'll leave the light on for you on the 26th, just in case.

Lenny, between John L's post #16 and yesterday's post by jtx, I think you may have your answers. jtx is Justin, our technical guy who has a rather large music collection, too.
If you have further questions, by all means post them.

Coda, I don't know what monitor you're using, but my Samsung 21" shows an abundance of color, contrast & detail on all of your shots ... always. You routinely punch up the saturation and contrast in post-processing, or at least it seems that way. The hibiscus did not suffer.

My sincere condolences to you and your family on the loss of your mother-in-law, walto. Unfortunately, I lost my dear mother-in-law in 2011 after being very close for 50+ years, so I empathize. It still hurts.
Here's to a nice summer for you, your wife & daughters.

Re: What's New?
Thanks for the update, Steve. Looks as if some fine new material is just around the corner. Kenny Wheeler's new quintet recording will be at or near the top of my list, that's for sure. I haven't heard Jon in that trio context yet, so look forward to that one as well. As always, your in...

Steve, is there anything new on the horizon from one of my very favorite drummers, Jon Christensen?
How about new recordings from Ralph Towner and Kenny Wheeler?
Thanks.

Re: Horace Silver has passed
Until reading an article today, I had forgotten that Horace began his musical career as a tenor saxophonist in the style of Lester Young, before switching to piano. He was discovered by a tenor player, Stan Getz, who took him on the road with him. His association with Art Blakey was also pivotal in...

Sounds like a reasonable beginning, Cem.
I hope things are even better tonight.
I like the way your music events are structured, and the care you give to graphics and other artful touches.

Re: Horace Silver has passed
Another great one is gone.
One of the very first jazz tunes I played as a drummer was Sister Sadie, and I dug it really hard. I thought that was one of the hippest tunes ever. Still do.

In my Inbox from ECM this morning: We are pleased to announce the release of Last Dance by Keith Jarrett and Charlie Haden, “as good as ‘Jasmine’”, The Guardian writes. “There are plenty of rapturous love songs, but for all their warm glow, this duo constantly invests them with strength and urgency....
