Re: Jazz in Los Angeles

I've got a bunch of clients in Los Angeles and the Inland Empire. I'm working 18 hours a day, so no time for shows. But the So.Cal. area had a great bunch of websites tracking shows and the local scene. I'm posting frlm my phone right now, but I'll try to put up a few links.

Maybe if you saw him with Terence Blanchard he'd look better. (I'm from the Old School that says no musician deserves disparagement, but Blanchard leaves me cold.

Re: Who I is.

I'll add a "welcome Marla". Sadly, Portland is probably the biggest United States city that I don't get to at least once every 18 months. I wish that wasn't the case. Love Portland. My mother and family were from Gresham and The Dalles. I'd gladly give up Malad City, ID in exchange.

I'll be living vicariously in this thread. I love travel, but miss having time for non-work travel. (Work travel is 365 days for me.) My last full day off was 2008.

My favorite to play is Wave. Sure, it's played a lot, but it's eminently sensible in construct for the improvisor.

Ron, Not to interrupt the flow you've got going on, but I really do enjoy the news and images. I lost my Alaska clients a few years back. And I no longer get vacation time to go on my own volition. Hopefully someday. Wonderful place. I mainly know Kenai Peninsula, north, to Fairbanks, though I've do...

Re: Farewell Peter Appleyard

One of the last things I watched on television before giving it up entirely was an Appleyard television broadcast with, I think, Zoot Sims and Slam Stewart. (mid 1970s)

Still remember that. (Maybe only because I don't have more recent TV memories to crowd it out/overwrite it.)

Travel (for cultural enlightenment)

Done. Seriously, I haven't had a day off work since 2007, so I can't have many passions. But work has me traveling 365 days,so I can sneak a bit of that one in.

As usual, I'm flying today. Or would be if SFO wasn't closed down (understandably). Current reports: two perished and ten sent to SF General. Terrible, but obviously could be worse. I fly 250000 miles a year. And, frankly, I never lose sight of how damn safe it is. So I'll get on my plane tomorrow a...

I didn't realize being a vegetarian meant you couldn't drink beer. :? Only for the "strict" vegetarian. It's a pretty second-rate, f*cked life for what you give up. You gotta buy into the philosophy. I do. But I don't really recommend it. And I don't preach. Call me nuts, but I think not ...

Re: The Beer Thread

I love beer. Or the memory of beer, anyway. (Before the vegetarian thing put an end to that.)

I brewed back in the 70s. It felt like real craftsmanship. Smelled like it too. Even to this day, I'll "tour" microbreweries, if they're willing to chat about the art. Yeah, I miss it.
