Re: What TV Shows Are You Watching?
Broadchurch was excellent. Did you know that an American version of the show is due out shortly. It's got a different name, with Anna Gunn (Breaking Bad), Nick Nolte, and interestingly enough, the dude that played the detective in the original wil be reprising the same role in the new one.

Re: What TV Shows Are You Watching?
The fight for Sunday night was especially entertaining last night! I bumped HBO's True Blood and The Leftovers for Shotime's Ray Donovan and Masters Of Sex. Prior to the shows they premiered 'The Butler' (HBO) and 'Gravity' (SHO). Not to mention 'The Strain' premiered on FX. Too much for this couch-...

Re: Charlie Haden RIP
I follow 100's of musicians/bands on Facebook. It's like my personal music newsletter. Anyhow, there's been such an outpouring of love and respect for Charlie Haden. But 2 of the posts resonated with me so I thought I'd post them here. Joe Lovano - Reflections on Charlie Haden... I'm feeling tears o...

RIP Charlie Haden.
Don't know why but I'm thinking; is there any Jazz enthusiast that doesn't own at least 1 record with Charlie on it? I also wasn't aware of his age, guess I always thought of him as a younger man.

Re: How do you distinguish jazz from rock and funk music?
1st thing that comes to mind is a level of sophistication. While there may be examples of 'sophisticated Rock' and 'sophisticated Funk', the word seems to lend itself more easily to Jazz, no? Interesting question!

Re: What TV Shows Are You Watching?
'Tyrant' premiered on FX last week. Although it seems like every character is a stereotype it still manages to be very compelling. Premiere episode played like 'The Godfather' in the Middle East, I'm not gonna explain 'cause I don't want to spoil. 'The Leftovers' also premiered on HBO this past week...

(P.S.---I'll be seeing Snarky Puppy tonight! 8-) And you're the one who "hipped me to them.") I'm too jealous! They must be one of the hardest working bands in the biz, I read they only had a handful of days off last year and they're doing it again this year! So, how w...

Since I had success posting a video, I'm gonna try doing some more. One of the 1st Jazz records I ever bought; In Pursuit Of The 27th Man (correction!). I was into the Dreams band at the time, when I saw the Brecker bros. on the Silver record I scooped it up not knowing a thing about him. I loved it! Last record of his I picked up was Hardbop Grandpop! RIP.

Re: What TV shows are you watching?
We have started "John from Cincinnati." Three episodes in, I think almost everything that was wrong with "Luck" David Milch got right with this. So far no one to like much at all but it doesn't seem to matter. I liked 'JFC', but I loved 'Luck'. Being a fan of both shows, I gotta...

Re: What Movies Are You Watching? Part 1
James Gandolfini's last movie; 'Enough Said' premiered tonight on HBO. What an amazing high note for him and Julia Louise Dreyfuss. Movie's got so much heart and is very smart. For me, who's a stone-cold Sopranos freak, having watched him so many times, I'm a huge fan of his acting abilities. Hearin...

He's a beaut Ron, congrats! Yeah, I tried to subliminally influence my son when he was in the womb. I regularly put headphones on his Mom's tummy trying to pipe in the tunes. To no avail! At 30 yrs old, after the piping AND continuously being exposed to my music his whole life, he's a hard core rap ...

Re: What TV shows are you watching?
Finished Orange is the New Black, season 1 last week. Definitely an interesting character study. A few too many girl on girl face plants for me though. But I guess what are the choices (Pornstache)? I'm highly amused/intrigued by Crazy Eyes and her parents. And Pennsatucky is truly scary/brilliant....

Re: What Movies Are You Watching? Part 1
Last night on Netflix I watched a movie I hadn't seen a long time; 'For The Boys'. I stopped watching mid-way through as the flick slows down in the 2nd half as Dixie Leonard gets older (and I know how it ends). It's a powerhouse performance by Bette Midler, especially when she's doing the character...
