Re: Charlie Haden RIP
I'm listening to Last Dance now for the 1st time. Wow! Keith and Charlie had a long relationship, and it really shows in this recording. It's a stellar release and worthy of our attention, in my view. https://s3.amazonaws.com/NRNArt/Keith-Jarrett-Charlie-Haden--Last-Dance-album-cover.jpg ht...

My pleasure, Valerie. I knew that you had wanted to see a current photo. Kai smiles a lot and seems to be working on his drumming grips.
Good one, Mike!

Re: OutBeat — Philadelphia | September 18–21, 2014
My take is that Fred finds the word "queer" distasteful and off-the-mark, though understands its widespread use. I think the festival's organizers were short-sighted and a bit flippant in using that word in their tagline. LGBT is now in common usage and would have probably been a more...

Re: Jazz in Philadelphia
You're welcome.
It seems as though Chris' Jazz Cafe is still the undisputed place to be since choices have really narrowed. It's a cool little room which my wife and I enjoyed several years back.

Re: Cameras & Photography
Thanks, Brooks! I like the way that one came out, too. It's like a mosaic with the way the water movement played with the rocks, fish colors, etc. If you look closely you can see a few Red Salmon in the background of the Fireweed shot, too. There were hundreds of them in the stream that day, on...

Kai is now 9½ weeks old and growing like a weed. As you can see, he's a very healthy, happy little character. This is a photo Justin took this morning and sent to us. We can't wait to see and enjoy him again this fall. https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2911/14566776627_4d78490f39_b.jpg

I'm working on it, BeBop. It looks like pretty slim pickin's, but there is usually a gem or two hiding somewhere. Check out this resource which seems pretty comprehensive. Click on the link below. Thanks for that clip, Brooks. Yeah, that's a very good band, with a "tasty" drummer, too.

Re: Yee-Haw!!! Any fans of Country and Western music?
My first gigs as a professional drummer were with a 5-piece country swing band which featured a "monster" pedal steel player, Bobby Lyle. I don't follow c&w music much these days, but my wife & I really enjoyed Asleep At The Wheel when they visited us a few years ago. I felt an au...

Re: Top 3 live performances by a drummer
There have been more than three amazing live performances by a drummer that I've enjoyed and appreciated, so here are my first three. 1. Alan Dawson trading fours with Ed Thigpen in a drum workshop in 1962 while I was a student at Berklee School of Music. 2. Jimmy Cobb with the Miles Davis Sext...
