Re: Corea or Hancock?
I've always listened to more Chick then Herbie, and I too love them both. IT was Chick who I first saw that turned me on my head. In terms of today, hands down it's Chick. He's done so many good things lately, his trio with McBride and Blade was absolutely stellar. Chick, Stanley and Lenny were phen...

Dave Holland/Kevin Eubanks/Craig Taborn/Eric Harland - Prism
This CD is FANTASTIC all the way through. Dave has topped the quintet at their best. This is magnificent recording. Eubanks is soaring throughout. He uses a lot of effects and plays his behind off. Taborn is right there, perhaps not as out front as Eubanks. Harland is always great, and Holland is at...

Re: 2013 Monterey Jazz Festival
After perfect attendance for 19 straight years, this will be the 3rd straight year I've missed.
I think this may be the best line up in a long time.
Have a great time everyone!

Re: Branford Marsalis blindfold test
A few topics here: First, I've been lucky enough to meet and hang out with Branford a few times. I find him to be an incredible guy: Nice, friendly, funny, extremely intelligent, and talented. Gotten to see him play a bunch too, never seen him phone it in. His onstage banter with the band is off put...

Re: Branford Marsalis blindfold test
I love Blindfold tests too! Been at a few that Mr. Ouelette conducted at Monterey. I like this one a lot, Branford is one of my favorites and not afraid to say he doesn't like something. I don't know the Fathead CD, but seeing the band, can't imagine I'd think much of it either. I wouldn't say Branf...

Re: Acoustic or Electric?
For me, it's all context, or mainly context. I guess who's playing matters too. I have a band that I love called Chico Trujillo, they're pretty much all electric, except for the horns, and I love them. I just heard part of the new Chick Corea and Vigil CD, didn't like it too much. For the most part,...

Re: Buika - La Noche Mas Larga
I'm listening to a lot more 'worldy' music of late, and this one is a fine mix of 'jazz' and world.....
I have not heard Pedrito's new CD, but want to..... I am about due for a trip to Amoeba, so I'll see if they have it.

Buika - La Noche Mas Larga
Concha Buika is an incredible vocalist! I love this new CD. Her voice is so soulful, deep and passionate, I love the CD. Pianist Ivan "Melon" Lewis adds a lot to the music. Also Dafnis Preito on drums, Jon Benitez on bass, Pedrito Martinez on percussion and vocals..... this is amazing. A b...

Re: In The Words Of Famous Jazz Cats ...
From Bill Cosby:
There is a famous cartoon that is famous only in my own mind, and I drew it, and it is dark, like an absence of electricity; human beings are gone. And then in the darkness there is a tombstone: "Jazz." And underneath, all it says is, "It broke even."

Chucho Valdes & The Afro-Cuban Messengers - Border-Free
Holy Cow! I love this CD. I just got it last night, popped it in the player for my commute to work, and it's STELLAR. I haven't enjoyed a CD this much in a long time. It's the perfect mix of 'Jazz' and 'Afro-Cuban.' Chucho is such a monster player, for some reason I kept thinking of McCoy Tyner whil...

Most Important Living.....
A guy I worked with and I used to play this little game..... Most important living..... it goes something like this. Piano - McCoy Tyner Bass - Ron Carter Drums - Roy Haynes etc Not your favorite or anything like that, but with the 'greats' leaving the planet, we were just keeping track of the impor...

Hi everybody,
Peter Williams is the actual name..... Never a huge poster on JC, but not for lack of interest, more a time issue than anything else.
Looking forward to chiming in and talking about the music that we all love.

Scott: yeah, I do expect, and and in fact I sort of like it.... I don't really care what kind of people they are, if I don't have to deal with them.... sort of...... As for the playing in the dark in Italy, I mean, it was a little extreme.... and at the same time... he told them not to take photos, ...

Re: Convince me otherwise please?
You know, I think I've mentioned it on the other board, but with Jarrett, his sounds don't bother me. If you play we great as he does, it's all fine

Re: Convince me otherwise please?
I LOVE Blanchard!
Mark Turner played with Dave Holland's Quintet earlier this year and sounded great. I also liked him with Kurt Rosenwinkel.
Love Jarrett.
My first post here, I think it's kind of weak.
My best selling album "Kind of Weak"
