Re: New Stereo System - First in 17 Years

And I am listening to something nearly every evening, still impressed by the reproduction and performance. Until I've listened to all of my music on the new system, it's a little bit like opening a new Christmas present each time.

Re: Board Upgrade in Progress

The diagonal ribbon should be removed across the board now. If you reload the page you are on, you should see the overlay disappear from your avatar. Thank you! What a difference in User Experience---all walto and I, to name two, could see was some kind of ghost image that was messing up the top le...

Re: Board Upgrade in Progress

Only certain avatars to the left of users' posts are affected; in those users' Profiles, the same avatars have a normal appearance. Correction re the diagonal ribbon, faintly inscribed with "Online," that appears on and near some people's avatars: The avatars have a normal app...

Re: Board Upgrade in Progress

Justin, I'm checking the appearance and functionality of the new software on our tablet, and my initial reaction is that it's definitely more legible, overall. Noted GB spelling. More comments soon. So, the extra wrinkle in the language situation is that on the previous version of the software, onl...

Re: Board Upgrade in Progress

Yes, to be clear, all of the original fonts that were supported on the previous version of the software are now supported again. They just aren't presented as a dropdown option in the posting page yet, but you certainly can use BBCode to add them in right now. Example: [font=Lobster][size=150]Wonder...

Re: Board Upgrade in Progress

Although the US English language pack was installed for the site software, anything specific to the site theme template may be shown in UK English. We'll need to correct those as they are discovered. Attaching a screenshot of the site as it appears on my Android phone. Screenshot_2015-06-29-13-31-40...

Re: Board Upgrade in Progress

The advance work on this move was pretty extensive, but fortunately the steps were well-documented. Since the database was kept intact, the main complexity is in restoring any custom elements that were not stored within the original site configuration files, as all of the site code was removed and r...

Board Upgrade in Progress

Hello, everyone. You may have noticed that the site looks a little different now. As recently announced , we are in the process of upgrading the software that runs the boards. In additional to offering greater stability and security and more efficient database functionality, it also opens Jazztalk.n...

Re: New Stereo System - First in 17 Years

So, I'm definitely enjoying the system. Listened to a number of albums yesterday, including Folk Songs by Charlie Haden (already coming up on one year since his passing), Egberto Gismonti, and Jan Garbarek. Also tried something out that I don't think I will use terribly often (but it's still an inte...

Re: What Movies Are You Watching?

A warning, as opposed to a review: Chappie, the new film by the once-promising director of District 9, just blows. It's as if the script was merely taken from an outline (written by an idiot) and handed to performers as the camera was rolling, so no one had any time to think. Worst movie of the yea...

Re: What Movies Are You Watching?

I also found Inception less than satisfying. Looper has been on my need-to-watch list since it came out, but I haven't gotten to it yet. And speaking of time travel movies starring Bruce Willis, I enjoyed 12 Monkeys way back when. That and Dark City were the first DVDs (along with Neil Finn's Sessio...

New Stereo System - First in 17 Years

So, it was still the 20th Century (and I was living in a different country) the last time I purchased a stereo system. It was a Sharp MD-XL10 bookshelf system, with Minidisc play/record/dubbing and CD playback. It actually sounded (and sounds) remarkably good. The speakers were of decent size and bu...
