Yes, and yes it was. Several HBO stable actors popping up (including one of the most colorful characters in Deadwood).

Re: And the site, she is dead.

If that was directed at me, all I can say is I expressed what FB felt like , without passing judgement whatsoever. I read FB every day, and most of my "friends" are all from Jazz Corner, who are far more interesting than almost anyone I know otherwise. Definitely more interesting than most...

Re: What are you reading?

Just finished Alice Munro's short story "The Bear Came Over the Mountain" re-printed in an Oct '13 New Yorker, not realizing until a few pages in (duh) that the fine movie called "Away From Her" starring Julie Christie is an adaptation of said story. The story is well written, bu...

The Killer Inside Me

By the way, you'll need a shower after watching this...quite dark, and more than a little disturbing.

Re: And the site, she is dead.

Mainly just felt like saying something about Amiri Baraka. But I also wanted to see some of the old folks from JC again, try to recapture some of the old camaraderie. Stick around! Something about FB makes me feel as if I were standing on the shoulder of a busy highway trying to spot cars I'm famil...

Re: What Movies Are You Watching? Part 1

Ain't them Bodies Saints - I hereby give this the 2013 award for most Terrence Malicky. Yeah I also thought of Mallick. It wasn't a bad film. I like Casey Affleck, most of the time. The one where he played an evil cop was good. And I loved him in that Jesse James movie with Pitt (he was good in it ...

Re: What Movies Are You Watching? Part 1

Another Scandinavian film, this time from Norway, called Troubled Water . Very good. Young careless teen and his dopier friend take an unattended baby stroller for a joy run into the woods, and accidental mayhem occurs. Our hero lands in prison where he learns how to play the church organ like a you...

Things were going well until the blow up on your gig thread. I stepped in with too big of a boot. You're welcome, I guess. So it is Pete's fault!!! That intrepid travelling bastard. Thanks for trying. Not sure why, but I feel more comfortable expressing myself on this format versus FB. Maybe I'm ju...

Re: What Movies Are You Watching? Part 1

I remember that movie and thinking he was too obvious about his parody, if that's the right word for it. I saw Bernie with Jack Black. Funny. Bling Ring - Not my cup of tea. I liked many of her other films, but not this one. I just don't care about any of it, and it was continuously annoying to me. ...

Why, stone? I often catch a 1, 2 or 3 pm showing at a multiplex and I'm almost always alone in the theater. Where is the TV thread? I've started watching Louie and I can't stop! I haven't had a chance to check out another theater yet (keep putting it off). I've been to movies since, but not in the ...

Re: What Movies Are You Watching? Part 1

I really miss going to the movies alone. The little mom and pop theater I frequented (like you guys, empty weekday matinees) has been closed now for years. Nothing like having a big screen basically all to yourself with an enormous bucket of popcorn and a mammoth diet coke. Like Lenny, that would be...

The Hunt Excellent. I can't say enough about how well written and acted this movie is, as well as truly disturbing, and ultimately exhilarating. I've become an ardent fan of Danish drama, and this is as fine an example as any I've seen. If you like Mads Mikkelsen, don't miss this one. http://images....

Re: What Movies Are You Watching? Part 1

Elysium Not nearly as terrific as District 9, which I loved, BUT definitely worthwhile fun. Damon was good, but the guy from District 9 (Sharlto Copley) was over-the-top good. Jodie Foster's performance was dopey (along with some of the basic writing for the film). But Blomkamp shows the same pizzaz...

Re: What Movies Are You Watching? Part 1

Michael Haneke's Amour If you have the heart to see a very realistic depiction of literally the very end of "love" by way of the ravages of old age, then this is the film for you. It is finely done with delicacy and a good deal of grace, but hard to watch nonetheless. Interesting the vario...

Re: Let us deify Sonny Rollins

Got nothing against Rollins, but saying he's better than Coltrane is like saying Ford is better than Ferrari. "Better than" is of course silly at that level. But I would say that Rollins and Coltrane had very different strengths. To me Rollins had a kind of sardonic wit that is part and p...

Please do not post nudity on the board, folks. Many people look at this board while at work, and having something like that pop up on their screen could end up getting them into a lot of trouble. Sorry about posting the picture. I just thought it would be a human interest story to show LeBron autog...

I'm gonna add a different sort of reply. If you asked, name the food you would eat with gluttonous abandon if you didn't suffer any consequences, my answer would be NUTS...as mentioned earlier...pistachios, cashews, peanuts, almonds...all by the pound, non-stop for an hour at a time. As it is, they ...
