Re: Jazz in Chicago
Thanks, Rita, but that'd be hard. Working two jobs starting this week-- adding a visiting lecturer gig at Framingham State U. to my reg full time job as an insurance regulator. Anyhow, my irritation wasn't directed so at missing a Melford concert as at the cuckoo quarter system. It's a ...

Anybody here go to the Chicago Jazz Festival? Looks like Myra Melford was there. (If NU had started earlier, I might have gone there with my daughter, but the stupid quarter system!)

There's a great battle between McLaughlin and Goodman (at 4,270 MPH) starting at 2:49.

51 is scarcely a "moldy fig," Steve. What are you going to call yourself when you get to Clint's age?
I don't want to guess, but I'm pretty sure it won't be "Steve."

Saturday I called my 28th annual dance for the San Francisco Girls' Chorus, always a yearly highlight. This year they honored me with a special Happy Birthday:

Cem says: [Vandermark] has earned the right to comment on how left of centre music is unjustly pushed further to the fringes, don't you think, Walter? Absolutely. I have nothing against the guy (I never met him, though I used to chat with his dad at gigs occasionally), and I think everybody ...

Happy B-Day! BTW, regarding membership outreach, AllAboutJazz has been down for a while now, and maybe it's for good this time. There were still a bunch of active posters there. I don't know how you can contact them--but if you can, I would! Never mind. AAJ is up and running again.....

Re: Happy Father's Day!
Not that anyone asked, but my Fathers' Day kind of sucked. My mother-in-law died about a week prior, and my daughters and I spent the day in airports and on airplanes returning from Little Rock. My wife didn't come back until the following day.
