Re: Only in Alaska!

This is a reason why we've taken down our bird feeders. They're awake, and active ... and hungry! This photo was taken this past weekend on one of our military bases in Anchorage. http://media.adn.com/smedia/2014/04/28/21/57/iJvwb.AuSt.7.JPG A black bear stands behind a telephone pole after...

Re: Jazz Videos

Here's an interesting clip from a gig this past week at the Pony Bar in Hamburg, Germany featuring my buddy, drummer Danny Gottlieb. The musicality and endurance displayed by him never ceases to amaze me.

Re: The Documentaries Thread

I had forgotten Merry Clayton's name until your post, Chazro, but I agree. What a voice!

So many only knew of her talent via the Rolling Stones, but I played the hell out of this record on KJZZ back in the day. It's a self-titled album.

Re: Jazz Videos

Well, to say that Hans Groiner's approach to Monk is "original" would be an understatement. Even Hans has difficulty maintaining a straight face at times.

He's a breath of fresh air, however.

Thanks, pig pen.

Re: Food For Thought

Here's a backward glance at a local island eatery on Kauai, one with no frills, but great food and abundant Aloha. Patti & I were the only non-locals there, but felt entirely comfortable and welcome. It's proudly owned by Native Hawaiians. Patti had a bowl of Saimin, a local favorite. I...

Re: Cameras & Photography

Nice, Brooks. Those are some unusual, very exotic-looking flowers. That's a most unique, huge Iris at the top. I would have gone nuts with my 55mm macro lens in that park! ;) You could leave me with my camera for an hour or so anytime I'm around water lilies such as these. http://www.golden-gate-par...

Re: Cameras & Photography

Thanks, Brooks. As I said in my post, it was a very monochromatic day, so the conditions were very much like B&W. I thought about converting one or more of these images to black & white, but liked the subtle contrast of brown tones you mentioned so left them "as is". Much of that b...

Re: Cameras & Photography

Thanks again, Valerie. Here are a few photos I took yesterday on our return trip from lunch in Palmer, Alaska, 5o miles north of us. It was, to state the obvious, a very monochromatic day. No, these are not black & white photos, though I may process them as such later. As you can see, winter is...

It's time to revive this thread. I'm also hoping that Jimmy Cantiello will see it and make a return, and share some great food and a few wise cracks. 8-) Yesterday, Patti & I headed north for a 50-mile drive to Palmer for lunch. It's an annual spring adventure, even though sprin...
