Re: What TV shows are you watching?
I watched the pilot of Brooklyn Nine Nine last night because I love Andre Braugher. It was just as bad as I feared it would be. He deserves much better than to be paired with Andy Samberg.

My bedtime music choice last night. Hadn't played it in a long while but when it was new it hardly ever left my player.

Re: Things You Like About Ron Thorne
I'll tell you what I DON'T like about Ron Thorne: he lives in Alaska. I want like hell to meet the man in person. I'd love to have him show me the pieces of Boston that were part of his life decades ago.

Re: Photographer Lee Tanner RIP
I have a book of his photographs, many of which were shot on the set of WGBH studios in Boston, when they had a televised jazz program. Those were the days.
RIP.
RIP.

I wonder what my daughters would say? As sort of expected, Hannah (almost 17) has no concept of what albums I play because kids don't think in those terms, but she said it was definitely the Beach Boys. As I was probably beginning my indoctrination of her, it was likely a heavy dose of Endless Summ...

I'll ask, but first I'll have to define the term "record" and then "album".

Re: What do people think about this "punishing Assad" biz?
I don't like the mentality that says we do a limited bombing campaign and the problem is solved. Kind of like the sequester stuff where no one really thought long term. I think Assad is just another deplorable head of state in the region. There are many regime changes that could/should be made (Isra...

Sept. 15 is Marion Brown Day in Massachusetts
You can debate his politics, but Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick has heavy jazz cred.

Re: What TV shows are you watching?
It's actually been years since I had a TV show I watched regularly. Not that TV is beneath me, but I've just been busier with other things. But even though I'm fearful it will be dumb, I'm inclined to check out Brooklyn Nine-Nine with Andy Samberg and one of my very favorite actors, Andre Braugher -...

Re: Acoustic or Electric?
Your example, Ron, of Chick Corea is well taken. I've always thought that his choice of instrumentation follows the requirements of the music he hears in his head, as opposed to, "Here's a cool new toy, let's do something with it." His playing is exceptional regardless of what instrumenta...
