Re: Rock songs you liked or noticed before you got into rock

I had the advantage of living with a sister who is 10 years older, so in 1960 I was hearing all sorts of great 45s....the first one that grabbed me and had me dancing with glee was Chubby Checker - Twist.

Honeymooner reruns on channel 11 at 11 pm every week night. My parents insisted I discover the genius that was Gleason.

Re: Are you an early adopter of technology?

I usually wait until the technology is a few years from obsolescence to take the plunge, so no, I am definitely not an early adopter. I was buying 8 tracks in 1978, recording my own cassette tapes up until 2003 or so, and finally purchased a DVD player in 2007?

I would eat a medium pizza pie every day for lunch until I tired of it, then move on to Five Guys burgers and fries. Maybe I'd alternate, medium pizza one day, two to three burgers with fries the next, and so on.

Re: Where did you first start posting on the internet?

I bought my first PC (and therefore my first connection to the internet) in late 1996. I started literally in the dark...I was on some freaky service, I can't recall what it was called, but it didn't last long, it was mostly people trying to hookup or look at porn. Within a few days I shoved one of ...

Re: We're an older crowd here I do believe

55, oh my. I don't feel 55 (not sure if a feeling should be associated with 55) and the only instances I am reminded of my middle age-dom is when I look in a mirror and see the gray hair and beard. Otherwise, I still yearn to play touch football, tennis, hockey, and other endeavors that would hasten...

Re: What Movies Are You Watching? Part 1

Turkish-German Faith Akin's "Head-On" - Excellent. I enjoyed his "The Edge of Heaven" from 2007, so I decided to see this feature from 2004. I loved it. As Charlie Rose would say, here is a trailer for the film:

Re: Outstanding piano trios

Always thought Miles 2nd 5Tet's rhythm section could've been greatest trio ever, and yeah I know they did record a few sessions, but damn those extended periods when Shorter and Miles hung back...that was some amazing trio playing. Bley/Peacock/Motian - Not One, Not Two (yes I REALLY love Paul Bley)...

Paul Bley recorded many great solo sessions. Still my favorite. Few selections: http://cps-static.rovicorp.com/3/JPG_400/MI0002/285/MI0002285738.jpg?partner=allrovi.com http://ecmreviews.files.wordpress.com/2010/02/open-to-love1.jpg http://images2.mtv.com/shared/media/images/amg_covers/200/drg700/g7...

Re: Best and worst rock concerts you've attended

Kind of a fun sub-topic: bands that were even better live than in the studio.

Springsteen '73-78

Lou Reed specifically the Rock n' Roll Animal band

Procol Harem

Mott the Hoople (laugh all you want, but live they kicked ass)

I'll think of more later.

Hancock, but in both cases I am judging based on their early work. Herbie before, with, and just after Miles by a mile.

FWIW I have had trouble sending emails to people who live in NYC all morning, so it may be a regional server issue (pretending I know wtf I am talking about). But seriously, all email attempts to NYC have been kicked back.

That's a good tip. You're right about the good part too, the sliver close to the wrapping is usually dry anyway. I also love that cheese, and often use it in salad (of course I always use it on pasta).

You know that gray very thin wrapping Locatelli uses on their romano cheese. Scraping it off with your thumbnail a millimeter at a time, cheese becomes wedged under your nail. Fucking annoying.

Re: What Movies Are You Watching? Part 1

The Devil's Backbone (Guillermo del Toro) 2000 - The misleading title aside (sounds more like an Argento feature), this is a pretty good movie. Not quite as fantastic as Pan's Labyrinth, but similar in how it is set in war torn Spain, features children, and has some supernatural elements (just one,...

Sometimes themes are clever, fitting in perfectly with the show. The whimsical sound of the piano as the theme to Doc Martin starts puts a smile on my face
