What's New?
To get things started, I'll ask a general and specific question. On the jazz front, what projects have been recorded but have not been released yet? Two of my all-time favorite drummers are Jack DeJohnette and Jon Christensen. I'm aware of Jack's latest output with Keith Jarrett & Gary Peacock i...

Re: MLB 2013
My family and I are going to a local baseball game tonight, The Mayor's Cup, featuring the Anchorage Glacier Pilots vs. the Anchorage Bucs, cross-town rivals. It's a 3 game series, and the Bucs won 4-0 last night. These players play in the Alaska Baseball League, a wonderful experience for NCAA coll...

Re: What's your favorite Joe Bim song?
Well, Joe, Dindi remains one of my all-time Jobim favorites, too. I hadn't read his biography so learning about the subject of that song from you was a revelation. There are too many favorite Jobim tunes to list, but also among my favorites are: Wave Triste Corcovado and this ... http://www.youtube....

Joe, thanks so much for your response. It's great to have you on board with us to share your insights and perspectives. I'm with you with respect to the democratic aspect of musical groups vs. dominant instruments/musicians. This afternoon, I listened to samples of each tune on your latest release, ...

Re: Jazz Videos
On this date in 1967, we lost a true giant of the jazz world, John Coltrane. He didn't quite reach his 41st birthday. I'll be enjoying a few of his tunes before heading to a baseball game tonight. I thought some of you might enjoy this wonderful video, which is quite extensive. http://www.youtube.co...

Re: Who Wants to Talk about PIE?
I'm not a big pie eater and I can take or leave sweets in general but I love me some pecan pie. Considering the ingredients you'd think it would be cloyingly sweet but in this case that's not so. http://grandmotherskitchen.org/recipes/uploads/3/files/pecan-pie-04.jpg I'm with you, Jimmy. I really d...

It was so nice to see the tribute paid to Mariano Rivera in today's All-Star game. Interesting that he was utilized in the 8th rather than 9th inning. Jim Leyland had his reasons ... Mariano is such a class act! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWK5-zMSQB0 The American League won the game 3-0, for the...

Re: Headphones
I've been a fan of Sennheiser products for a long time. I got my first pair of their headphones (HD-414s) in the mid-70s, and still love and use them. I failed to post a photo of them earlier, so here they are in all of their retro glory. I've had yellow, gray and blue ear pads over the years. Their...

Re: Meet Joe Carter
I'll break the ice and ask Joe a couple of questions.
Joe, who is in your current working group? Are you still working mostly in duo and trio settings?
Do you have plans for a new recording in the near future? If so, can you tell us anything about it?

Meet Joe Carter
Our resident Brazilian jazz guitarist is open to questions and comments, but is less than confident that anyone will be interested in what he has to say.
" ... I'm not sure you'll actually find anybody who's interested in what I have to say." - Joe Carter
Let's prove him wrong!

Here are a few shots from a recent drive down the Seward Highway, south of Anchorage. The top one was taken from the parking area of the Bar-B-Q joint where we had lunch. The bottom two were taken in a greenhouse at a nursery we like to visit in the area. http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5535/929499287...

Re: Headphones
There is no "expert on this", BFrank. Obviously, there are good, better, best headphones in terms of frequency response, comfort, and build quality, but ultimately, it's what sounds best on your ears. It's totally subjective, just like amps & speakers.
