Re: Scott's New "Toys"

Scott, I ran across a review of the Dynaudio Excite X12 speakers and had to smile while reading the "meat" of the review, remembering your (former) disdain of Hammond B3 organs. Nice material was utilized in the listening test. "The layers of detail revealed by the X12's rich, gloriou...

Re: Scott's New "Toys"

Looks like piano gloss black to me. Sweet-looking finish.

Also looks like a mouse is jockeying for position to enjoy some headphones. :music:

For what it's worth, I can see Industrial in post #45, Coda. It doesn't appear to have been deleted ... at least not from my view. It was always visible to me.

Cecile McLorin Salvant at Catalina's Bar & Grill - 02.17.14

Cecile McLorin Salvant at Catalina's Bar & Grill - February 17, 2014 It was the most impressive Los Angeles debut for a jazz singer since Roberta Gambarini ten years ago. Cecile McLorin Salvant has been gaining publicity on the East Coast for a few years including winning the Thelonious Mon...

Re: Playboy Jazz Festival 2014

This year's lineup is pretty strong, overall. As usual, there are good/better/best groups, based upon individual tastes. And, as usual, some questionable choices.

So, how was it at Catalina's last night, Valerie? I think I know. ;) Cecile is a busy, in-demand young lady, appearing at Dimitrious Jazz Alley in Seattle tonight. http://citypaper.net/cmsAdmin/uploads/thumb3/agen_cecilemclorinsalvant_c.jpg My, what a lovely face to match her remarkable voice.

Re: Scott's New "Toys"

Even though it doesn't appear anyone is still interested in this discussion, I figured I'd follow up with the rest of my system rebuild. I've been interested from the very beginning, and still am, Scott. Congrats on the fun task of putting together a terrific new sound system! The "build"...

Neil Young on MP3s—and other options

Scott, since you've recently upgraded your home music system, you (and others, of course) might enjoy the comments of Neil Young on the subject of MP3s and other forms of music distribution. iTunes and Steve Jobs are mentioned in direct fashion, too. This is from 2 years ago. http://cdni.wired.co.uk...

Re: What's New?

Don't have The New Quartet on CD. Have you heard it on vinyl ? If not, you have a real treat ahead of you. This was Gary's 1st recording on ECM, and one of my favorite albums of his to this day. It's available as a used CD on Amazon dot com, and elsewhere as a lossless digital download, if you're i...

Re: Cameras & Photography

As many here know, I've been having fun with my "new" Olympus micro 4/3 camera for the past few months. I'm still learning tons about its features as well as the "old school" 35mm lenses I've purchased for it. They are all manual focus lenses, for those interested in such informa...

Re: Cameras & Photography

This is one of my favorite shots from our recent trip to California. The light was fading fast, the sun almost gone, but even in the shadows, these Apricot blossoms called to me. The lighting on the branch behind the flowers made it much more dramatic and interesting ... to me, at least. http://farm...

Have to admit, I don't know what else to call a sleepover... Staying the night? A slumber party has to involve more than two kids. A menage... oh wait!!! that can't be right either. ;)

Well, we used to simply call it "spending the night". It's trivial, I admit. :whew:

http://ecmrecords.com/Images/cover/ECM/1000/1040_a.jpg That's a sterling recording, with great soloing from Goodrick, but let's not overlook the extraordinary contributions of Michael Gibbs on this beauty. Recorded a year earlier, the album below is another gem, if you haven't already heard it. Hig...

Re: Trivial Annoyances

Why aren't some time-honored phrases good enough for today's parents? Why is a child spending the night with a friend now referred to as a "sleepover" and playing with a friend at their house a "play date"? Somehow, it seems silly, almost pretentious, something for which I have v...
