What a mess! An already complex, smoldering region just entered a new phase which may see (even further) splintering of the country we poured so many people and dollars into. With Iran entering the picture, it will only get more bizarre.
I can't think of a way in which the U.S. can constructively assist Iraq in a timely fashion without making things even worse.
We messed things up in Iraq more than once, and now the chickens of war have come home to roost. It's a sad and scary time.
I agree that Dan Larison made some salient points.
