This is one of those videos that truly must be seen to be believed. There are other earlier videos of these two characters, but I saw this one first this morning, thanks to a friend who sent me a link in an e-mail.

I never realized barn owls were so social.

With other species, they're not. Gebra isn't a wild barn owl. As an owlet, she was hand-fed and trained for falconry; as an adult, she's still hand-fed, but she hunts for her own food about 30 percent of the time. She's "not a typical falconry bird" (e.g., she's now allowed to fly untethered), but she is essentially a domesticated barn owl. A wild barn owl would never behave that way with a member of another species. (If you want to see wild barn owls interacting with each other, have I got links for you!)

The owl and the pussycat met when they were each a month old. Unfortunately, Fum used up his ninth and last life in May (he died of a feline illness).

I've had trouble embedding as well. (But then again I've had trouble just trying to post something publicly - often accidentally sending PM's instead. D'OH!)

Next time I have a video to post, I'm going to try hard to do the embed thing correctly. I remember that the instructions made it seem easy.

This is cool. TV shows are getting more realistic.

HBO’s True Detective series by Director Cary Fukunaha and Australian cinematographer Adam Karapow may just be the most amazing I’ve ever seen in a television series… As the slogan goes: "It’s not TV, it’s HBO."

The astounding part about this shot revolves around the fact that no compromise, or very little, is ever made in terms of framing let alone pacing. Heck it doesn’t ever feel like a "one shot" which is perhaps the ultimate compliment one can pay such a shot… The high level of action and intense acting carries the shot throughout. The fact that the team decided to keep pushing their luck the longer the shot went helps bring this to the very top of my list of one-shot wonders in all of cinema history.
