"Ignore" Feature

Postby Ron Thorne » July 25th, 2013, 7:10 pm

There is no Ignore feature on this board, per se, but there is a feature which is essentially the same ... Friends or Foes. I had forgotten about this until this afternoon, when another poster mentioned it to me. It's in our FAQ page, but there's a direct, clickable link below.

Uh oh, Ron. You should put Scott on your foe list.

Scott Dolan, in #2, wrote:And putting someone on your "foe" list is EXACTLY the same thing as putting someone on ignore. You won't ever see any posts from that person, nor will they be able to send you a pm.
Forsooth, a veritable discrepancy---

UCP → Options → Friends & Foes → Manage foes:
Foes are users which will be ignored by default. Posts by these users will not be fully visible. Personal messages from foes are still permitted. Please note that you cannot ignore moderators or administrators.

There is no way currently within phpBB to automatically block all foe PMs, but there is a way for recipients of PMs from foes to automatically delete them via a personal PM rule setting.

Screenshots provided below.

First, go to the "Rules, folders & settings" section of your PM area.

Then create a new rule defined as "Sender is foe: Delete Message" as shown below:

I don't know if anyone has mentioned a minor difference that I believe exists between the JT "foe list" feature and JC's ignore feature. With JC's Ignore, you still saw when the people on your ignore list had posted and could then chose to view each post, one at a time. It appears that the JT foe feature doesn't show where a foe has posted.

You can still view the posts made by those on your foe list. There is a link provided.

I temporarily added you as a foe, and this is what I saw on the thread:

I went ahead and corrected the wording to match better with the friend/foe wording used everywhere else.
