The avatar problem I'm having isn't about dimensions, but file size. I get a message that the pic must be between 0 and 6KB. I've made the teensiest pic I could (about 65 x 65) and it's still too big. At least I THINK that's the problem: it just keeps saying "No File Submitted" after I browse and then submit a file.

There are free picture compression sites on the internets. Ask the Google. I had to reduce the size of my pic and used a free site for that.

Man, take your time. When you were taking about this site coming up and being pretty rough around the edges for a while this is not what I had in mind. Almost all the functionality is here and it looks terrific. Your effort is very much appreciated. I'll still feel a bit misty when JC bites the dust after tomorrow but to say that this site softens the blow is a huge understatement.

Let me give it a try, jazzbluescat. I'm thinking you won't mind if it's cropped first to focus on the bike more?

jazzbluescat wrote:OH! So, if I crop it in Paint, then reduce it to 106x106 that'll do it? [I never thought of that.]

Is that what you're going to do? If so, let me try first. Then, if I screw up, in those immortal words of Arnold What's-his-name, "I'll be back."

Yes, cropping in paint works very well but then I recommending going to a site that will compress the image size. This site works very well: http://jpeg-optimizer.com/

Just keep the file the same ratio, with the largest dimension being 105 and that site's tool will compress the file size quite a bit to get under the 6kb limit.

Thanks.

No problem. In paint, you can use the rectangular selection tool (the rectangle with the dotted lines) to choose any rectangular area you want and then hit the crop button and you're done.

Don't see anything, uli. Try to link to it again or attach using that area down below where you reply to a post that says "If you wish to attach one or more files enter the details below..." If you've got it on your PC and browse from there and click "add the file" it should attach.

no need, thks. Just a theoretical question.

But it's gotta be something else than a following post locking it. If you look on the waylt. My post is the last and does not have an edit.

No problem, uli.

I've got it down and it only takes a couple of minutes so anyone that needs their avatar fixed just let me know. Paint makes it easy to crop and reduce the size of the image and the site I've been using to compress has been making the file at least 70% smaller.

Thanks for the avatar assists, Lenny.

Another sweet piece of free software is IrfanView. It's very user-friendly ... almost a PhotoShop-Lite.
