Lots of the William Parker box set

The set with the quartet augmented with James Spauding, Bobby Bradford and Billy Bang is spectacular. Most of the box is very fine. The 4 discs with 2 complete nights with the O'Neal's Porch quartet is as good as the band was live a month ago. Very expansive and unrushed. Rob Brown is a grower and Parker/Drake is simply the most unique driving groove based bass/drum tandem maybe in the history of jazz.

I still can't get over the power of that team seeing them from 8 feet away last month.

I didn't know that Ben had a new release until I saw your post, so thanks! Now if I could only get the download to work on eMusic I'd be laughing.

In the meantime, the following is in rotation:

This record is my personal new discovery of the year. Found it because accordion player Vincent Peirani is on of the two guests, the other one is Marc Ducret on guitar. Journal intime is a trio:
sax: Frederic Gastard
tbn: Matthias Mahler
tp: Sylvain Bardiau
instead of trying to describe the >>small big band avantgarde sound<< two tracks as an audio test:

Best wishes from the south-west corner of Germany
