Another rare video has been unearthed, this one by drummer Danny Gottlieb.

"This was a video recorded in 1995, featuring the GREAT Mundell Lowe on guitar. I have been looking for this for years! I was subbing for Joe Morello, with his long time buddy Sal Salvador on guitar as well. I used a favorite Eames kit, and am so proud to have participated in this video. I thought it was gone, as no one seems to have a copy. Great!" - DG

A good friend shared this video with me, and I think it's a fine example of a straight ahead piano trio. This is a group I wasn't hip too, but is definitely worthy of more listening time. There is a very interesting and informative interview in the 1st clip, and a dynamic live performance in the 2nd one.

Seeing and hearing is believing! This is one of the most amazing videos I've seen in a long while. Talk about "doin' your homework"!

"I spend 90% of my time in the shed transcribing and absorbing the language of the masters. I've been trying to get Clifford Brown's
legendary solo on Cherokee under my fingers for a month or so now! What a genius he was!" - Alex Spradling

Here's a rare Charles Lloyd video from 1966, just a couple of years before my wife and I saw him. Unfortunately, Jarrett was no longer in the band, but it was still a magical evening. We spoke with Charles after the concert, and he was very cool, even stroking the head of our young son, Darren, who was sleeping in my arms.

Happy Birthday, Eric Dolphy!

One of my favorite jazz tracks in all the world: "Feathers" (aka "Feather"), composed by Hale Smith. It was recorded in 1960 and originally released on Dolphy's album Out There. It sounds much better to me on the LP than on any CD I've heard, and I'm guessing that this YouTube clip was indeed obtained from the LP.

(If the slow opening doesn't grab you, please keep listening anyway!)

Alto sax: Eric Dolphy
Cello: Ron Carter
Double bass: George Duvivier
Drums: Roy Haynes

Hard to beat this quality from one of my very favorite drummers. What an ensemble, too.

September 29, 2016 by Anne Litt • Norah Jones returns to the piano for many of the songs on her new album, Day Breaks, which harkens
back to her blockbuster debut, Come Away With Me. She recruited an assortment of Blue Note jazz greats for the album, on which she
delves into some of the issues of the day — particularly in "Flipside."

Note: Dr. Lonnie Smith is on Hammond B3.
