It's also the birthday of another incredible bassist, Paul Chambers, the 1st one I heard in a live concert setting . . . with Miles Davis' sextet in 1962. Here he is just 2 years earlier, playing with Miles in Europe, just a year or so after the release of Kind of Blue.
