If you can ignore or tolerate two short commercials (and Tavis, occasionally), there is the wisdom and insight of a nearly 60-year career with saxophonist Wayne Shorter in the clip linked below. This aired last night on PBS.
Wayne Shorter Interview
The interview gets better and better by-the-minute, and the conclusion is worth the price of admission.

Re: Wayne Shorter Interview
Yes, the conclusion is wonderful (and many of Wayne's comments about improv).

Re: Wayne Shorter Interview
I don't know, how long this film will be still available online. German law limits online time for television broadcasts, 7 days, otherwise they will have to pay additional license dues. So it may disappear tonight. It starts German http://www.arte.tv/guide/de/048875-000/jazzlegende-wayne-shorter or French http://www.arte.tv/guide/fr/048875-000/wayne-shorter-legende-du-jazz, but the hole interviews with Wayne Shorter, Brian Blade, John Patitucci, Danilo Pérez and Herbie Hancock are in English with subtitels.
Best wishes from the south-west corner of Germany

Re: Wayne Shorter Interview
Its allready blocked, as i feared. But someone in france downloaded it from there and put it on youtube.
Meanwhile i got the new issue of >jazzpodium<, a small german jazz magazine. There is an article about this documentary film, and they call it the best jazz documentary film ever. An exaggeration, but i saw it three times now, ant its really good. Starts with a very short digest about the musical career of Wayne Shorter (no necessaries to translate, it's only an introduction for the spectators, who don't know Waynes Shorter at all), the rest they let the musicians talk freely, without interrupting them with questions.
