SFJAZZ Center Announces 2013-2014 Artist Lineup
Season 2 includes four shows weekly plus special events and series.

San Francisco’s SFJAZZ Center has announced the artist lineup for its 2013-2014 Season, which runs from September 5, 2013 to June 8, 2014. The venue, which opened in January, presents live music each Thursday through Sunday. The schedule and ticketing information is available on their website. Click on the link below.



NOTE:Season Two tickets will go on sale to SFJAZZ Members on Tuesday, July 16 at 11:00am PST and to the general public Tuesday, July 30 at 11:00AM PST. Schedule and artists are subject to change. Visit sfjazz.org or call 866.920.5299.

Bassist Don Prell leads a band the first Friday of every month at Bird & Beckett. I just discovered his great playing on a Claude Williamson trio side from the '50s. He went on to be bassist with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra.

The Sixth Annual Jazz Organ Fellowship Tribute will be Sunday, August 10, 2014
at the Repertory Theater in San Jose, California
This year's JOF Honoree will be Sonny Phillips (aka Jalal Rushdan) He will be present to receive his JOF Award. Our Tribute will be in conjunction with the San Jose Jazz Festival and, in keeping with their Japanese theme that Sunday, we will be presenting Japan's Atsuko Hashimoto and Midori Ono. Special guests will include saxophonist Houston Person. Plan to be there and enjoy this one-of-a-kind Jazz Organ Extravaganza!

My friend, guitarist David Haskell and his group are playing at Jupiter in Berkeley tonight at 8pm. David is a superb guitarist/composer who I met when he was in the late Jim Pepper's band, Muktuk in the 80s. We lost contact with one another for a couple of decades but have since re-connected, to my great pleasure.

Jazz author Ashley Kahn, saxophonist Ravi Coltrane and special guests will gather to discuss the development, impact and influence of Coltrane’s masterwork on the music world, the jazz scene in the Bay Area, and its role as one of the definitive artistic statements of the 20th century.

Should probably pick up one more show, too. Going to be a great week!
