Re: David Gitin — R.I.P.
I too had great dialogue with David in cyberspace and once during a trip to the Monterey Peninsula, many years ago, after Passing Through was published. Thanks for contributing to my life and, now, inspiring me to think about my own legacy.

I seldom have anything to say. (I almost said "...have anything worth saying" but value never stops me!) Still I'm glad this place is here. Good lurking.

I've got all of his 40s recordings. That was about as far as I went with him. Great bands. Dex, Jug, Wardell, Diz, Fats, Kenny D. MGM-era singing didn't do much for me. And I missed his trumpet/trombone work, which was gone by then.

After a few days of (snowy) distraction, I'm back to jazztalk to add my hearty "Congratulations".
I regret that I didn't think to take a picture of the half-can of Diet Coke I was served on today's Dallas-to-Chicago flight. But I'd have toasted your joyous day, if I'd known.

Not CHEAP cheap, but you can pick up a Bose CD player for a couple hundred bucks. Here's a changer for $249:

Congratulations! I've become more of a lurker than a poster. That's mainly because I can never think of anything intelligent to say...and I'm trying to hold myself to a minimum standard of "intelligent".
Why? I don't know.

Yes, I was there. I started to write comments (above), but it was just a bunch of senile rambling. Nothing of value. I read your post (eagerly), and I beg to differ. Thank you, bluenoter. For me, it was a 90 minute wait in wind chilled 9 degrees. I kinda wish I'd had something better than m...

Whatever food happens, I'm just going to enjoy the day writing cards and enjoying a bit of relaxation before work (10:00PM).
Dinner plans got thwarted. OpenTable reservation. Then a call from the restaurant: "Sorry, no 'parties of one' today". C'est la vie.

Duos. I just thrive on hearing the interplay. I spent most of my formative years (which extend to present day ;-) ) playing duos, so there's also a comparison and learning thing going on. Specifically, I'll take tenor sax and bass as an ideal combination. Check out Archie Shepp's "Looking at Bi...

Ebola can be transmitted by flipping someone off.
(It did really strike me that, in "unsophisticated" West Africa, the people I encountered were more sensible/science-based about Ebola than in sometimes hysterical Europe (Brussels) and the United States (rural and agricultural area).)
