Re: Bill Evans

The Fantasy box has a cd of Evans talking with Marian McPartland. It was quite illuminating.

Re: Tark the Shark, R.I.P.

Several years ago, Tark spoke at our Kiwanis Club and I was fortunate to be the chair that day and had a nice visit with him. I liked him.

Re: Is Chick Corea Miles Davis' greatest alumnus?

Corea is a fine player but Bill Evans influenced a helluva lot more players than Chick.

Miles wasn't even Bird's greatest alumnus.

Re: Cheap stuff that you like

I prefer Dewar's, Pinch, Famous Grouse and Johnny Black over single malt which,to me, tastes like medicine. Not cheap. There is no good cheap Scotch.

In N' Out double double for about $3.50 is better than any $11 burger I've eaten.

Re: Bill Evans

Peter Pettinger's bio of Bill Evans, "How My Heart Sings" is excellent. Also Gene Lees devoted a lot of space to Bill in his Jazzletter.

Re: Retirement

We administered dozens of 401ks and would do our best to dissuade participants from taking early distributions. They would still do it.

Re: Retirement

Yesterday I decided to post about 401k and yakked about IRAs. A 401(k) program is a profit sharing plan that allows participant contributions. The employer contribution to Profit Sharing is limited to 15% deductible. The employer may chose to match participant contributions but is still limited to 1...

Re: Retirement

I've been out of the retirement business for about seven years but back then the pre-tax contribution was limited, maybe $40K, after that any contributions were after tax but created a cost basis when distributions were taken. Earnings are not taxable until distributions are taken.

Re: Retirement

I'm with waggs.

With the Republicans controlling congress, there is a very good chance they'll put the economy in a recession as they have in the past, maybe even a depression. If they get a president elected a tin can in the back yard will be the best place to put the bread.
