Re: Favorite TV Show Theme Music

Couldn't find just the theme (they have episodes of this on utube in theur entirety!) but this one always gave me tingles (probably from knowing how fucking great the production was, having seen it at least six times)

Homicide: Life on the Street

Not a pretty theme, but good nonetheless

Re: Favorite TV Show Theme Music

High on my list would be the theme used in Reilly: Ace of Spies, which was taken from Shostakovitch's The Gadfly Suite:

Favorite TV Show Theme Music

I've always appreciated the themes used for certain shows over the years, sometimes to the point of tears (don't laugh you fuckers).

My all time favorite:

Re: What Movies Are You Watching? Part 1

The Raid: Redemption Any fan of martial arts action films would like this one. I'm not familiar with the genre all that much, but I have to say the choreography of the fighting was amazing to behold. I've never seen this particular style. Recommended to fans of this genre. http://assets.vice.com/con...

Re: What TV shows are you watching?

American Horror Story is really more like a funhouse at an amusement park, with Jessica Lange as the hook. I enjoy it because it is demented, and it makes me laugh. But I wouldn't call it "horror", it is way too tongue in cheek for that. Other shows in the TIVO queue are Homeland , Boardw...

I learned how to drive on manual transmission, and my next four vehicles, spanning 30 years, were all manual. Now I have automatics.

Re: Government Shutdown

Yes, I think everyone here would agree on loud condemnation being the very least they deserve. The reasons for their very existence are all well known by now. The facet of this that baffles me the most is the miscalculation on the more moderate wing of that party to (so far) allow extremists to domi...

The Joe Bushkin (who?) session is incredible. Actually, the Earl Hines that precedes it on Disc 2 is also great.

Junot Diaz - The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao That one just floored me. It's the first Diaz I've read, but he's pretty amazing. I'm not sure how well this reads for folks who are not bilingual, but Diaz' fluidity and skill weaving the two languages was something I did not think possible. I disc...

Well, I do know that a common thing to do out here is to burn your broken down house and collect insurance...so...maybe too many people go for a two-fer (get rid of unwanted house member AND collect insurance).

The Master , and Django Unchained I enjoyed The Master for the great acting by the two leads, whom are both among my favorite American actors. I also really liked Johnny Greenwood's score (as good as the work he did on There Will Be Blood ). Django was entertaining, especially Sam Jackson's over th...

Re: Have you been involved in any twerking?

I find going the "dirty whore" route very sad and tiring. Why do female "artists" still feel the need to give in to such pressure? Though I'm not a fan of her music, Cyrus has proven herself to be a comedic talent as an actress, and an entertaining singer. Why sink to the depths...

Re: What do people think about this "punishing Assad" biz?

Scott - I don't know. But off the top of my head, it should involve at least 75% of the countries in the region, and also a 2/3 or greater UN vote. If the world doesn't have enough governments and/or cultures to agree to something like this, then so be it. I just hate the old fashioned interventioni...

Re: What do people think about this "punishing Assad" biz?

I find it really hard to believe that Assad ordered chemical attacks. He's winning his war, the only thing that can take him out at this point is Western intervention and the only thing that is going to cause Western intervention is a use of chemical weapons. That chemical weapons were used, I don'...

Been wracking my brain to think of something and I finally did. For a long time I trusted and believed that the police were always there to help you, and were the opposite of criminals. I would say from age zero up to about age 15 or so.

I enjoyed House of Cards but think Spacey's character shouldn't have been from the south. It would've been better if he played it straight up, with his natural accent, which is nil. Are you guys just now seeing the first season?

Re: What TV shows are you watching?

I liked Orange is the New Black a lot. After a few shows I was a bit indifferent but it really grew on me. It was fun. I was surprised to find that much of the high-level story on which the series is based is true. Not the details so much but Piper's story. As I said before....it starts off slow, b...
