I'd like to be in Arizona now, regardless of the politics. I'd just keep my mouth shut and enjoy the sunshine.

Re: Cheap, non-audiophile, CD player

You can find a cheap CD player for around $50. I have one, but it doesn't work now. It will play, but tends to stop in a middle of a track, making it essentially useless. Mine is like a mini boom box Sony used to make durable devices -- I don't know if they still have that reputation. The next step ...

Re: Retirement

Got a package in the mail from my son-in-law, who is a professional carpenter. He sent us drawings on how he would build an "in-law" apartment for us in our house. The house we live in has been in my wife's family for 150 years. For that whole time, it's been multigenerational. My wife gre...

Re: Cheap, non-audiophile, CD player

Yea, what I have now is cheap, which is why it broke and doesn't now do what I want it to do. I might have to look at something like the Bise or just something I can plug headphones in. I have Czerny exercise books with CDs, and I like to listen to what they are supposed to sound like. (I usually ma...

Cheap, non-audiophile, CD player

I use a CD player to listen to song I am trying to learn to play on piano. The one I have only works about half the time. It has to be a box with a speaker. Any recommendations for something cheap?

Forgotten about Halberstam's death Just looked up on Wikipedia for a reminder of how it happened: "Halberstam died on April 23, 2007 in a traffic accident in Menlo Park, California near the Dumbarton Bridge. He was in the area to give a talk at an event at UC Berkeley and was en route to Mounta...

That about sums it up, BFrank. But what irks me, as a journalist, is that he's received all manner of awards for pushing that crap. "He has received eleven Edward R. Murrow Awards, twelve Emmy Awards, the duPont-Columbia University Award, the Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism a...

Re: 75 pounds down ...

Up around 190 now. Diet has gone to hell, but I am still exercising most everyday. Did three miles Tuesday and Wednesday on the YMCA treadmill (cold and lots of snow here). Plan on going to a "spinning" class at 10:30 today.
