Re: Trivial Annoyances

facebook has a list of "people I may know". One of those "people I may know" is Yankee Stadium. Btw, shouldn't it be "people you might know"? Help me out here, Rita.

Re: Trivial Annoyances

No problem, Ron. I did notice that your name was attached to some of the "suggestions" and I appreciate it. However, as much as I would like to connect to some of those people I don't want to seem too pushy so I will probably take a wait and see attitude. It's too bad the young knucklehead...

Re: Trivial Annoyances

Reluctantly, I recently opened an account on facebook. The first thing I did was to reach out to certain friends and family by making friend requests. As a result I have been inundated with friend requests from people that I suspect did not personally send me these requests. This is pretty much piss...

Re: Food For Thought

Just checked my bank statement online. The charge for the meal we had at Bistro B was credited to Barnum Publick Bistro as opposed to Bistro B or Barnum Publick House. Hmmm. I think Ron F. was onto something when he mentioned tax considerations.

Re: Food For Thought

I always try to take care of the front line soldiers in restaurants. The way that the hospitality business, particularly the restaurant business, is set up puts the server at a decided disadvantage. Servers and bussers do not even get paid minimum wage. Who made up these rules? These people have to ...

Re: Food For Thought

Joanne and I had a "strange" dining experience this past Saturday night. We decided to go to a relatively new joint in our hometown, Bridgeport. It's about 20 minutes south of where we live in Monroe. Since the exodus of manufacturing there, and Connecticut in general, Bridgeport has had a...

Re: Food For Thought

Sounds good, Ron. Sometimes the "little" restaurants are the best. Now that it's going to be getting cooler around here I'll be eating more pasta. Yesterday, even though it hit 80 degrees here in Monroe, I was craving pasta. I made a pot of red sauce using San Marzano tomatoes, sweet Italia...

Re: Food For Thought

Patti & I have enjoyed some really good food since landing in southern California last week — from grilled Opah with capers to Pastrami on Corn Rye with Matzo Ball Soup, and homemade Chicken, Cheese & Chile Quesadillas. Today, at our grandson's 10th birthday party, probably Canneloni at...

Hey, I'm with you, my friend. I would not subject myself to general anesthesia unless it was totally unavoidable. It's beyond me why some people take such a thing so lightly. Sad situation just the same.

Re: Joan Rivers — R.I.P.

Well, Monte, if it makes you feel better, from what I understand this last procedure, although elective, was a purely medical issue (vocal chord surgery) as opposed to a cosmetic issue. Ironic for sure.

Re: Joan Rivers — R.I.P.

I loved Joan Rivers. She was a survivor. In my family that counts for a lot. However, the procedure she underwent required general anesthesia which, unfortunately, comes with huge risks. No, I don't have a medical degree so I may be talking out of my ass but...I'm guessing there is not necessarily a...

Re: Food For Thought

I've been overindulging on tomatoes for the last several weeks because I know that soon I will not be able to find a tomato that's worth shit until late next year. The only downside to having access to so many delicious garden fresh tomatoes is that I can't use them up fast enough. Joanne has been b...

Timoleon, I'm a firm believer that a picture is worth a thousand words. I live in Fairfield county in Connecticut which means I'm in close proximity to New Haven style pizza as well as New York style. Matter of fact, I soon will be traveling to Coney Island in NYC (Brooklyn) to visit one of the city...

Re: What Are You Drinking?

Just broke the seal on a bottle of Silo bourbon that I picked up the last time I was in Vermont. Interesting small batch bourbon aged in American oak barrels. Rich and smooth. Just what I like in a bourbon. http://lh5.ggpht.com/-7hZbjDVdLQc/UsymoZn_J9I/AAAAAAAAJtM/SfopgB74rhY/image_thumb%25255B2%252...

Re: Words of Wisdom

Words of wisdom according to Jim Croce:

You don't tug on Superman's cape.
You don't spit into the wind.
You don't pull the mask off that old Lone Ranger.
And you don't mess around with Jim.

Or...Jimmy!

Re: Food For Thought

Just got back from a pizza pick up at Salerno's. I will be enjoying plum tomato pizza #2 later this evening. I will have to reheat it. Although the best way to enjoy a pizza is straight out of the oven at the place where it's made, gently reheating it is a good second choice. Salerno's also offers t...

There are a few things that I don't want the cashier doing while he/she is doing business with me.

1) Please, don't blow your nose.
2) Please, don't sneeze into your hand.
3) And last but not least, do not, I repeat, do not...lick your fingers while counting my change back to me!

Re: Food For Thought

One of the few pizzas with no meat that I will eat. The flavor of the fresh tomatoes is like eating summer's bounty. I think the time in the oven magnifies the flavor of the red fruit and the pesto on top is a match made in heaven. I'd go so far as to say this pie is sui generis for sure. The only p...

Had my first plum tomato pie of the season yesterday. These pies are works of art both visually and gastronomically. The stars are the thick cut fresh plum tomatoes and a nice swirl of pesto. I will eat many before the fresh tomato supply runs out. http://ww4.hdnux.com/photos/05/65/14/1528587/5/628x...

Re: What Are You Drinking?

For my martini today I opened a bottle of Silo gin that I bought last time I went up to Vermont. It's distilled at Silo Distillery in Windsor, Vermont. Not bad but a little "heavy" tasting in my opinion. I prefer a cleaner taste in my gin. Hendrick's is still champion in my book. They also...
