Re: Cameras & Photography
Nice. That photo shows more detail than the one you posted on facebook. Actually, now that I've viewed the photo on my phone I think the fault lies with my tablet.

Re: Remembering John Norton, JMJ
John was a nice guy. I was fortunate to have met him in person and lifted a few pints with him. RIP, my friend.

Re: Tim Green, R.I.P.
I did not see the original post by Ron until now. Sorry to hear about Tim Green, although late. I could not help but notice in his obituary that Mr.Green grew up in Bridgeport, Connecticut, my hometown as well. I'm sorry I never heard him play live. Condolences to Dennis for the loss of his friend.

http://www.jewelsdujour.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/Cornucopia.png Thanksgiving is just around the corner, a time for celebrating and gathering with family. Food is central to this celebration, so I thought if would be worth asking what plans you have for this holiday as well as what special way...

Re: Food For Thought
This has nothing to do with food, but should bring a smile to the poster who created this thread. While looking at some fascinating, rare photographs tonight, I discovered this one, which seemed perfect to share with Jimmy Cantiello. http://earthlymission.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/1964_Frank-S...

Re: Food For Thought
Lazy Sunday evening. Nursing a mini-hangover. No cooking tonight. A martini followed by some brandy and the hangover is history. Still lazy, though. Chinese take-out is the way to go tonight. We can't get the real deal in the suburbs as we can when we're in NYC so we'll just have to make do. Whitey ...

Re: Beer — "all things malty and frothy"
Damn you, Thelil! Hopefully your remarks about Abita didn't influence my judgement. I tried an Abita Octoberfest last night. Aside from the fact that the beer tasted flat there was not much flavor going on. The word flaccid comes to mind. Hopefully, the next bottle will present itself better. If not...

Re: Beer — "all things malty and frothy"
Picked up a sixer of Abita Octoberfest Marzen-Style Lager. Abita, in case you don't know, is a brewery in Louisiana. They describe their Octoberfest as a full-bodied malty lager with a medium amber color that is hopped and dry hopped with German Hallertau hops. Will sample it soon. https://sp.yimg.c...

I personally have never had that problem. Then again, I never log out so when I come back to the site I'm already logged in. Don't know if that's the remedy but it works for me.

Re: Latin FreeJazz Festival — NYC | November 6–7, 2014
Ohhhhh, I must have misunderstood. I was just making fun of what I thought was a poorly worded poster. To me, the poster advertised a jazz festival that was devoid of latin jazz. Get it? Latin free Jazz Festival, a Jazz festival with no latin Jazz? Forget it. If I have to explain it...

Incredibly cool stuff, Ron. I have a brother-in-law who has done wood carving over the years. He recently retired so I would assume that he would renew his interest in full force, hopefully.

Re: Food For Thought
Portland, Maine has a great food scene so I was excited to be there for a wedding. The wedding actually took place in Falmouth, just north of Portland. As a prelude to the wedding celebration we hung out in and around Portland. I was on my own on our first night in Portland due to Joanne being a lit...

Re: Food For Thought
Nice meal at Street & Co. In Portland, Maine. Picture perfect halibut from New Foundland. Buttery melt-in-your-mouth flavor. Perfectly cooked alongside ethereal whipped potatoes and green beans napped with tomato relish, rosemary and lemon juice. I had the halibut grilled. Whitey had the same ex...

Re: Only in Alaska!
Our house is fine, and we're making the assumption that Darren's cabin is also OK. His neighbor would have called, otherwise. Our little cottage survived the 1964 quake so we were pretty confident that it made it through without damage. One wine glass fell off a counter and rolled into the living r...

BeBop wrote:I hope this isn't quite as incestuous as it sounds.Jimmy Cantiello wrote:...a family wedding.
In this particular case "family wedding" means my nephew is getting married. His extended family is descending on Portland to celebrate the occasion. So, no, there will be no incest involved.
Re: Travel
Not as exotic as BeBop but next week Whitey and I will be headed to Portland, Maine for a family wedding. There is a great food scene in Portland so I'm looking forward to spending some quality time in a few of the restaurants while there. Btw, my first year of retirement was fantabulous. I'm headin...
