Re: Clifford Curzon

I'd never heard of him until I watched a documentary on Seymour Bernstein. Curzon was his teacher and favorite pianist.

Re: Questions for Steve(thelil)

I was in a bar last night and saw on a TV there that there were two baseball teams playing that I'd never heard of -- the Marlins and the Mets. How long have these teams been around, and what wvwr happened to the Indians and the Tigers? Were those teams not good enough?

Re: Questions for Steve(thelil)

What professional basketball team was named after a TV set and what was the name of a famous player for that team whose first name was the same as a dairy product? Too easy: The Vermont Vizios and their star guard Curd Shmelking. Thanks for asking! Great answers! But the correct ones are: Rochester...

Re: NCAA Basketball

Kentucky has to make it through the SEC championship "before this thing is over," and both A&M and Ole Miss took them to overtime this year. I think their number is coming up soon.

Re: Jon Stewart

I am not "blaming" Stewart. I realize now that I didn't make that clear in the above posts. I am saying that his influence is so great that it has warped the attitudes of "real" journalists. The biggest influences today on journalism are the TV satirists and BuzzFeed and Twitter....

Re: Retirement

Nice that you can do very little -- slowly. I don't have that option. But I am "only" 62, so that might be the difference. You had 12 more full-time working years than me.

Re: Jon Stewart

Not a big fan of Maher at all, nor Brian Williams I can appreciate those who appreciate people like Jon Stewart, but he -- IMHO -- has really done a disservice to journalism. He is a good comedian and commentator, but his success has led to the infusion of his brand of snark at many old-line news or...

Re: Retirement

It always amazed me how many of my fellow employees did not take advantage of the 401(k) benefit and free money that comes with it. And the people that raided their 401(k) multiple times and paid the exorbitant penalties for no good reason. Crazy. was reading yesterday about the high percentage of ...

I did the same thing for my wife... I took a penalty, so she'll get 100% of my pension after I die.

Re: Start an interesting thread.

You know you are from Arkansas if: 1. You take your dog for a walk and you both use the same tree. 2. You can entertain yourself for more than 15 minutes with a flyswatter. 3. Your boat has not left the driveway in 15 years. 4. You burn your yard rather than mow it. 5. You think the "Nutcracker...
